Situated to the east of Poitiers and north-west of Montmorillon, Chauvigny, in the Pitou-Charente region of France, boasts a lovely medieval city atop a hill overlooking the modern town. Here, the Abbaye de Saint-Savin, is a UNESCO World Heritage site where you will find murals which will fill you with wonder. Much of the old city is preserved and charming to walk around. There is very little traffic to disturb the quietness and tranquility. Some fine cafe’s can be found and inside the castle grounds a spectacular display by birds of prey can be seen at “Les Géants du Ciel” – The Giants of the Sky – show, which runs from Easter to October.
